City of Victoria Media Release
The City of Victoria is bringing temporary pickleball courts to the Crystal Garden as part of the OUR DWTN revitalization program. The historic building operated by the Victoria Conference Centre will host two indoor pickleball courts in a temporary installation from January 9 to February 18, 2024.
“Victoria Regional Pickleball Association is applauding the introduction of the fastest growing sport in Canada in the iconic Crystal Garden,” said Connie McCann, president of the Victoria Regional Pickleball Association. “Pickleball in Beacon Hill Park has been a resounding success and we expect local and visiting players will embrace playing in the Crystal Garden as well.”
Pickleball has grown in popularity in a relatively short amount of time and this pop-up installation offers the community a chance to get into the action of this high demand sport, right in the heart of the downtown. This pop-up event is directly aligned with the City’s Strategic Plan priority to enhance supports and amenities for recreational, youth and professional sport in the city. Everyone is welcome to register to play, from seasoned athletes to casual players.
The pickleball courts will be available for a mix of drop-in times, court reservations and registered programs. Program information will be available online on December 12. Registration will open on December 14 at noon.
The OUR DWTN revitalization program is investing in Victoria’s downtown core with a focus on beautification, programming, cleaning and enhanced safety and the activation of downtown spaces. Learn more about the OUR DWTN revitalization program at victoria.ca/OurDWTN.
